Double Image Software Review
Double Image is a product from Host Interface International, a software development and consulting company based in Washington state and founded in 1983.
To start with Double Image is one of the few backup programs that is multi-threaded. That means you can run multiple instances of the program. This makes it possible to have more than one backup/restore jobs running at the same time. While not an advantage to the average home user, it's a desirable feature for more complex environments.
Double Image 5.0, which stores a copy of your data on an extra drive or partition, is a decent solution for backing up files and folders. But since it lacks emergency recovery tools, this program doesn't provide the complete security offered by products that can back up and restore your entire system. Still, using Double Image is very intuitive, as all its options are readily available in one place. It supports both full backups and incremental backups, either by timestamp or by archive bit. Flexible options make it easy to select files for backing up or restoring. For instance, you can speed the process by specifying files that were modified between specific dates, or you can choose relative or absolute filenames, which will either preserve or ignore the subdirectory structure. The highly useful reporting tool compares files on the source and target drives. Unfortunately, to back up to CD-Rs and writable DVDs, you'll need a third-party packet writer.
